Root Canal Therapy is a very common dental treatment. Dental Injuries, dental decay, lack of dental care or dental hygiene may cause an infection to the tooth’s pulp. If the pulp becomes infected and the nerves die, endodontic treatment (Root Canal Therapy) has to be performed.
Symptoms for an infected pulp include:
- Acute and intense pain
- Sharp pain when biting down
- Lingering pain with hot and cold foods
- Dull ache and pressure
- Tenderness and swelling in the nearby gums
While one treatment for these symptoms is the extraction of the tooth, Root Canal Therapy allows Dr. Leung to extract the infected pulp and keep the tooth as functional as before with no pain at all.
How is Root Canal Therapy performed?
A gap is drilled into your tooth, so that the infected pulp and nerves can be removed. An adhesive cement replaces the pulp inside your tooth to prevent future infections. Finally, your tooth is sealed and restored with porcelain inlay/onlay or a crown.
